Ortiz is making his 10th Championship start. He has competed in every edition of the Latin America Amateur, notably finishing T-4 and one stroke out of a playoff in 2017 at Panama Golf Club. He finished T-27 in the inaugural Championship in 2015 at Pilar Golf Club in Argentina and in 2024, he missed the cut by just one stroke. He has won 30 national titles in Costa Rica and represented his country in the Eisenhower Trophy seven times.
